About the Student Support Leadership Initiative

SSLI is a collaborative initiative between the Ontario Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Child and Youth Services that provides funding to school board, community agency and health sector partners to establish or enhance local partnerships that will better meet the needs of students through collaborative planning, coordination and referrals.

In Simcoe County, SSLI funding is managed through COMPASS Co-Mgmt. COMPASS (Community Partners with Schools)(http://www.simcoecountycoalition.ca/en/Sub_Pages/compass.aspx) is an already existing network of local Community School Teams- that are looking to collaboratively address issues facing schools/children and youth. COMPASS falls under the Child, Youth and Family Coalition of Simcoe County.

SSLI funding in Simcoe County has been provided to support:

1. The development of a Suicide Risk Protocol for Youth that was developed by a Suicide Risk Recognition and Prevention Protocol Task Group and a hired consultant.
2. The development of a Simcoe County Single Plan of Care Protocol for Collaborative Engagement Multi-Need/Multi-provider Population - with the support of a hired consultant.
3. The evaluation of COMPASS (Community Partners with Schools).
4. A forum for school, school board, community agency and health sector partners to meet to look at ways to move forward.
5. Support to strengthen the existing CYFSC website so that more information to support partnerships can be posted.
6. The development of 'Service Mapping" in partnership with 211 that allows for easy identification of available resources depending on issues (see http://www.simcoecountycoalition.ca/en/Sub_Pages/servicemap.aspx)

Additional funding for the next funding period will provide support to the roll out of the protocols, the development of resources to support COMPASS and further work to develop health sector partnerships.
