Please find below a weblink to the Canadian Council on Social Development website and also to the Association of Municipalities of Ontario website. The CCSD link provides further links to various sources and opinions on the current issue of the federal government decision regarding the census long form. The County of Simcoe will be monitoring this issue closely as it has a definite impact on decision-making resources for both municipal government and civil society organizations:

  • Community Connection has released a new report documenting unmet needs and service gaps in our region.
As the 211 Service Provider for Central East Ontario, Community Connection has more than doubled our service area in the past 18 months and as a result awareness of 211 is still low. However, we believe that it is useful to produce and distribute report examples. By effectively sharing information about the needs expressed by callers that are not adequately met by community resources, the data collected by 211 service providers may impact the improvement for more comprehensive and effective services.

Over the next 5 years, annual calls to 211 in the Central East region are expected to increase to 150,000, with outcome reporting expected to provide a solid sampling of data for a variety of community reports.

In 2009, Community Connection/211 Central East Ontario received just over 30,000 calls from residents and human service professionals seeking information about community services. These calls resulted in 276 documented unmet needs. Follow this link to access the report: 211 Central East Ontario: 2009 Unmet Needs & Service Gaps.
